    The Most Depressing Mugshots

April 11th, 2012 julia Posted in Featured, Lifestyle No Comments »

It’s never pleasant to have your mug shot taken, as these recent photos of emotional arrestees show. Of course, not getting popped for drunk driving or criminal trespass is a good way to avoid the sheriff’s harsh camera. By and large, no one is happy when they get their mugshot taken (though we could do a gallery of people who seemed thrilled). But some folks really take it pretty hard. These poor fellows must be very scared. If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime ya’ crybabies! So, stop crying and say cheese. Check out these pretty depressing mugshots. Enjoy.

Cops at the Turn of the Century

April 5th, 2012 julia Posted in Featured, Lifestyle No Comments »

Here’s an interesting collection of some curious black and white photographs of the police officers from 1890–1930. The 20th century brought enormous changes to nearly every aspect of life, so police work was bound to be affected. Different forces worked in different ways and there was little contact or co-operation between them. There was no central criminal record-keeping. Greater mobility of criminals and the need to make use of new technology led to amalgamations of police forces. Some aspects of police work have changed much less. Take a look at these cops at the beginning of the 20th century. Enjoy.

    Living With Capybara

February 28th, 2012 julia Posted in Featured, Lifestyle No Comments »

Meet Caplin Rous, a large, domesticated rodent known as a capybara. “He’s very needy but I love him to death,” says owner Melanie Typaldos, who adopted the pet from a breeder two and a half years ago when he was just 11 days old. “He loves to lick my face and forehead and just follow me around everywhere.” The 100-lb. capybara munches on grass most of the day (the creatures are herbivores) to maintain his figure. Thankfully, Typaldos and her husband live in rural Texas, where they’re surrounded by clean grass. Caplin dwarfs guinea pig Neptune, who belongs to Typaldos’s daughter, Coral. Capybaras can grow up to 4 ft. in length — basically the size of a child! Typaldos often takes Caplin to schools to teach children about wildlife. “People hear the word rodent and they think it’s some kind of a dirty word,” she says. “But many of them are very smart, clean, loving animals.”

    Interesting Blacklight Tattoos

February 24th, 2012 julia Posted in Featured, Lifestyle 1 Comment »

UV tattoos are also known as black light tattoos. These tattoos are made with a special ink which becomes visible under a black light, though the tattoo itself is invisible in regular light. In the last decade these tattoos have become popular among party-goers as they are readily visible at parties where a black light may be used. Blacklight or UV tattoos can be seen under a black light but are invisible or only partially visible in normal light. This becomes kinda a fad. Nothing is seen during the daylight, but when you come to a nightclub, your tattoos start to glow like a Christmas tree whenever the blacklight is on. Take a look. Enjoy.

    Contraceptives Through History

January 11th, 2012 julia Posted in Featured, Lifestyle No Comments »

When Grandma and Grandpa wanted to get frisky back in the day, these were the antiquated things they had to use. Obviously, since I’m here, they didn’t work extraordinarily well. The oldest known condoms in the world – 17th Century creations made of animal and fish intestine. So here’s some condom history: Whether condoms were used in ancient civilizations is debated by archaeologists and historians. In ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, pregnancy prevention was generally seen as a woman’s responsibility, and the only well documented contraception methods were female-controlled devices. In Asia before the 15th century, some use of glans condoms (devices covering only the head of the penis) is recorded. Condoms seem to have been used for contraception, and to have been known only by members of the upper classes. In China, glans condoms may have been made of oiled silk paper, or of lamb intestines. In Japan, they were made of tortoise shell or animal horn. Take a look how condoms looked in the past.

    Powerful Shaolin Arts

January 6th, 2012 julia Posted in Featured, Lifestyle No Comments »

Ever since 1669, when Huang Zongxi first described Chinese martial arts in terms of a Shaolin or “external” school versus a Wudang or “internal” school, “Shaolin” has been used as a synonym for “external” Chinese martial arts regardless of whether or not the particular style in question has any connection to the Shaolin Monastery. Since the beginning of the 17th century, the Shaolin Monastery garnered such fame that many martial artists have capitalized on its name by claiming possession of the original, authentic Shaolin teachings. The Shaolin Monastery is the most famous temple in China, renown for its kung fu fighting monks. With amazing feats of strength, flexibility, and pain-endurance, the Shaolin monks have created a world-wide reputation as the ultimate Buddhist warriors. Check out their unique abilities. Enjoy.

    Hipsters of the Future

December 22nd, 2011 julia Posted in Featured, Lifestyle No Comments »

Hipsters are a subculture of young, recently settled urban middle class adults and older teenagers with musical interests mainly in alternative rock that appeared in the 1990s. Hipster, as used in the 1940s, referred to aficionados of jazz, in particular bebop, which became popular in the early 1940s. The hipster adopted the lifestyle of the jazz musician, including some or all of the following: dress, slang, use of cannabis and other drugs, relaxed attitude, sarcastic humor, self-imposed poverty and relaxed sexual codes. So, we can conclude that hipsters appear in every few decades, these photos are just an idea how hipsters might look like in the future. Enjoy icon smile Hipsters of the Future

    Dressing in 1860

December 22nd, 2011 julia Posted in Featured, Lifestyle No Comments »

Nothing was easy in the 1860s, not even dressing. 1860s fashion in European and European-influenced clothing is characterized by extremely full-skirted women’s fashions relying on crinolines and hoops and the emergence of “alternative fashions” under the influence of the Artistic Dress movement. We arrive at 1860 with four significant facts that were to seriously affect fashion of the future. Firstly the sewing machine had been invented, secondly clothes would in future become couture design led, thirdly synthetic dyes would make available intense colors. Fourthly in 1860 the crinoline domed skirt silhouette had a flattened front and began to show a dramatic leaning toward the garment back. But, to put on that kind of dresses was really hard. If you ever wondered if women had it harder 150 years ago, take a look at these crazy images. Enjoy.
