Despite the sky-high prices for land and realty there are still desolate buildings in Japan. This motel had been built in 1973 and was closed and abandoned in 1997. Separate stairs lead from the hall to each of the ten rooms and the interior is very similar to the “love-motels” where you can book a room for two for just a couple of hours. With a whopping 500 million visits a year, love hotels – establishments that offer couples a private, short-stay location in which they can indulge in the pleasures of the flesh – are a booming business in Japan. Indeed, it’s been estimated that 1.4 million Japanese people, or 2% of the country’s population, visit a love hotel each day. This young man holds the new world record for extra fingers and toes. The previous record was a measly 25. A Chinese hospital has released x-ray images of a six-year-old boy who was born with 14 fingers and 16 toes. The boy was scheduled for surgery at a hospital in Shenyang, Liaoning province, to removed the extra fingers and toes, local media reported. Experts said a gene mutation contributed to the growth of the extra fingers and toes, according to reports. A six-year-old boy with 15 fingers and 16 toes has undergone surgery to remove his extra digits. The unnamed Chinese child had four fingers on one hand and three on the other fused together. He now has ten fingers and ten toes following a six-and-a-half hour operation at a hospital in Shenyang, Liaoning, to remove the surplus 11 digits. More images after the break…

Gibraltar Airport (which is not part of Spain as a lot of readers pointed out) is a very unusual airport. To my knowledge, it is the only one where the runway actually intersects with a major highway. When a plane has to take off or land, traffic is shut down. The History Channel program Most Extreme Airports ranks it as the fifth most dangerous airport in the world and the most dangerous in Europe. We have heard of highways being used as runways in some countries. But this is the first time I have seen roads crossing a runway and road traffic being stopped by a traffic light while an aircraft takes off or lands! Absolutely amazing! British Gibraltar has very little area, and the important airport runway takes up a major portion of land. To drive from Gibraltar to Spain, vehicles must cross the runway. Born with leg deformities, Faith had to have both of her front legs removed when she was only seven months old. For most dogs, this would lead to a life that really wouldn’t be worth living, but her owners kept the Faith – literally – and most astonishingly, this perky little pooch discovered how to walk on her hind legs alone, walking upright like a person. A two-legged dog who has learned to walk upright has been made an honorary sergeant in the U.S. army for inspiring disabled war veterans. Faith, an eight-year old labrador-chow cross is a favorite at army bases and hospitals, where she ‘marches’ around on her hind legs, dressed in a military jacket. Her owner Jude Stringfellow, from Oklahoma City, is now trying to bring the remarkable canine to Britain to meet troops wounded in Afghanistan.

The death of the 69-year-old North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il triggered a flood of tears from his countrymen. The news of the North Korea’s leader death has put the 24-million population on the verge of insanity, hyped up by unceasing TV broadcast of mass mourning throughout the country. It is a measure of the tight controls imposed on civic life in North Korea that it is impossible to gauge how most of the country’s 24 million people reacted to the death of Kim Jong-il. After his 17-year rule ended his followers turned into blubbering mourners and begs the question: are their tears real?
